OUTDOOR RECREATION

Parks

The City of Port Orchard has a number of neighborhood parks including some with lighted tennis courts; children's play equipment and picnic areas. South Kitsap is home to Manchester State Park, which is situated on the shores of Puget Sound. Covering 111 acres with 3,400 feet of waterfront. 50 standard campsites, and a group RV camp area. The park has an unguarded swimming beach, restrooms and bathhouse with pay showers. There is a large brick picnic shelter, 65 picnic sites, a volleyball court, a horseshoe pit and two small picnic shelters. Several county parks are located in South Kitsap. Long Lake County Park has swimming, play and picnic areas. South Kitsap Community Park, a 200 acre park offers free miniature train rides, ball fields, horseshoe pits, walking trails, batting cages and picnic area. There are a number of baseball and soccer fields throughout South Kitsap.

Boating, Fishing & Water Sports

Port Orchard is home to the Port Orchard Marina, said to be one of the finest public marinas in Puget Sound. Recreational water activites are limitless, fresh water lake fishing, saltwater fishing, diving and shell fishing. Boating activities include; water skiing, personal watercraft, kayaking, sailing, yachting, beachcombing, swimming and the opportunity to view salmon returning to spawn. View bald and golden eagles, osprey, heron, seals and occasional orcas.

Golf

Several courses are considered destination resort facilities. Trophy Lake Gold & Casting and McCormick Woods are considered two of the finest golf courses in the state. Horseshoe Lake Golf course is one of the best-kept secrets in the area and Village Green rounds out the golfing opportunities in South Kitsap. All are public courses but advance reservations are recommended.

Other oustanding activities and facilities in the South Kitsap area include automobile racing, drag racing, tennis, swimming pools (indoor), horseshoes, bicycling, scuba diving and movie theaters.
