Boat Travel (Ferries)
South Kitsap features two state ferry terminals (car and passenger service), and two foot ferry (people and bikes only) centers:
4. Port Orchard/Bremerton
The Washington State Ferry schedule (boats departing Bremerton and Southworth) changes seasonally, and prices shift with state budget decisions. Fare prices and schedules are available on the WSF website.
South Kitsap and Port Orchard lie along Highway 16, which stretches between I-5 to the east and State Highway 3 to the west.
Two passenger only ferries run between Bremerton and Port Orchard, one from Port Orchard to Bremerton, the other from Annapolis to Bremerton, providing a convenient commute for Naval Shipyard workers, tourists, locals, students of Olympic College, and easy access to Seattle.
The Port Orchard/Bremerton ferry leaves Port Orchard at the top and bottom of every hour, and leaves Bremerton at a quarter to and quarter past every hour. During holiday weekends and extended summer hours, ONLY CASH accepted. Fare is $2 each direction.
Hours shift seasonally and around holidays, so please call if you have a question about a specific date.
Typical hours for the Port Orchard/Bremerton are as follows:
Weekdays [M-F]: First ferry departs Port Orchard at 4:30am, final ferry departs at 8:30pm.
Saturday: First ferry departs Port Orchard at 8:30am, final ferry departs at 7:30pm.
Sundays: Ferry only runs on specific holiday weekends. Ferry will run for extended hours on Memorial Day Weekend for Kitsap Harbor Festival, and hours will be updated when they become available.
A second passenger-only ferry runs from Annapolis to Bremerton, mainly serving employees of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. This ferry runs only on weekdays, leaving Port Orchard every fifteen minutes between 6:00am and 7:45am, then run against in the afternoon between 3:32pm and 5:47pm.
The Bremerton National Airport, operated by the Port of Bremerton, is the largest airport on the Kitsap Peninsula. It provides world-class general and corporate aviation services and capabilities, and can accomodate most private and corporate planes.
Rent a helicopter, charter a hopper flight, get flight training, enjoy the taste of local seafood at the Airport Diner, or catch a drag race at the track!
The Sea-Tac Airport and Port of Seattle are a short hour drive from Port Orchard. If you're looking for transportation to and from the Sea-Tac airport, please see the Bremerton Kitsap Airporter.
In addition to staffing the Port Orchard/Bremerton passenger only ferry, Kitsap Transit runs buses across Kitsap County, from Purdy (border of Kitsap and Pierce Counties) to Poulsbo (northern border of Kitsap County).
